Tamil Nadu Moves Forward with Parandur Airport Proposal

The Tamil Nadu government is poised to apply for in-principle approval for the Parandur airport, planned as the city’s second airport in Kancheepuram district. Following a positive recommendation from the steering committee for site clearance, the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) is set to prepare and submit the Detailed Techno Economic Report and other essential documents.

The approval process, expected to take between three to six months, will also require TIDCO to secure an aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Additionally, TIDCO will need to negotiate agreements with agencies like the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The project, which has been in the works for over a year, received a significant boost with the recent Parliamentary confirmation of site clearance.
