Tamil Nadu Information Commission Notices Two IPS Officers for RTI Non-compliance
The Tamil Nadu Information Commission has issued notices to two senior IPS officers, J. Mahesh, and R.V. Ramya Bharathi, calling for explanations as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them for failing to furnish information sought under the Right to Information (RTI) Act within the stipulated time frame.
The case stems from a petition filed by Manigandan of Ennore, seeking details of FIRs registered in 2016. Despite the Act’s mandates of providing information within 30 days, the officers, who were previously PIO/DCP and FAA/JCP, North Zone, respectively, did not provide the requested information. The Commission directed the present PIO/DCP to furnish the correct and complete information to the petitioner within seven days and report compliance to the Commission.
