Tamil Nadu Government Employees Demand Income Tax Deduction System Reform

Government employees in Tamil Nadu, represented by the Tamil Nadu Arasu Uzhiyargal Sangam, protested in Saidapet against the lack of a proper system to deduct income tax for those opting for the old tax regime. Over 50 employees participated, highlighting that the new pay slip software introduced by the State government fails to accommodate those eligible for deductions under the old tax regime.

This oversight has led to excessive TDS deductions, with some employees losing more than half their salary. Despite multiple appeals, no corrective measures have been implemented. The forum is urging the State government to update the software to include the option for the old tax slab system, ensuring fair tax deductions for eligible employees.
