The Tamil Nadu Forest Department is gearing up for the annual elephant migration season from October to March. To mitigate human-elephant conflicts during this period, the Dharmpauri forest division, which encompasses vast forest land and reserve areas, has established anti-depredation committees.
Similar committees have been set up across all forest ranges in the state to minimize conflicts. The Dharmpauri Elephant Corridor, including Palacode, Pennagram, and Hogenakkal forest ranges, witnesses significant human-elephant conflicts.
The committees will focus on preventing such conflicts and conducting awareness camps for local residents. Consisting of 25 members each, including Department experts trained in monitoring elephant movements, these committees will eventually expand to cover the entire state.
