Tamil Nadu Anticipates Relief from Rainfall Deficit with Incoming Weather System

Tamil Nadu is poised to receive a reprieve from its rainfall deficit as the state prepares for the next spell of fairly widespread rainfall starting Sunday. Coastal and Cauvery delta districts, including Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Ramanathapuram, and Thoothukudi, are expected to experience heavy rain, addressing the current 15% deficit in the northeast monsoon.

The influence of an easterly wave, coupled with an upper air cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka, is anticipated to bring moderate to heavy rain until November 23.

Despite a dry Friday in Chennai, the city has a chance of moderate rain on Sunday. With the overall seasonal rainfall at 24.4 cm against the normal share of 28.8 cm since October 1, the state aims to bridge the gap and alleviate drought concerns in certain districts facing over 40% rainfall deficit.
