Tambaram’s Eastern Bypass Delayed Due to Land Acquisition Issues
The completion of Tambaram’s Eastern bypass, a project envisioned in the CMDA’s first Master plan in 1979, is hindered due to land acquisition issues. Residents occupying 188 houses on various government lands in three revenue villages need to be provided with alternative housing and shifted for the construction to proceed.
The 9.3-km-long bypass from Rajakilpakkam to Perungalathur faces hurdles as residents, including Narikuravas, demand alternative housing. While the Highways department has submitted proposals to the Chengalpattu district administration to address these demands, the lack of provision for rehabilitation payment complicates the process. The affected stretch of the four-lane wide road and the land near Perungalathur, belonging to the Forest Department, are yet to be acquired, further delaying the project’s completion.
