In response to recent water contamination incidents leading to the tragic deaths of three residents in Pallavaram Cantonment, the Tambaram Corporation has launched a rigorous cleaning drive for overhead tanks and sumps across its divisions. These efforts aim to ensure the quality of drinking water supplied through metro water, the Palar river, and borewells.
So far, 40 of the 82 overhead tanks and all 32 sumps have been cleaned, with the remaining tanks slated for completion by week’s end. The contamination was traced to the Pallavaram Cantonment area, which operates its own water supply, prompting swift intervention by Commissioner S. Balachander. The Corporation emphasizes chlorination and regular maintenance to safeguard public health and prevent future incidents.
