T.R. Baalu Matches P. Chidambaram’s Lok Sabha Record with Seventh Win

T.R. Baalu, DMK treasurer, has equaled Congress veteran P. Chidambaram’s record by winning his seventh Lok Sabha election, this time from the Sriperumbudur constituency. Baalu’s political journey began with a victory in the Chennai South constituency in 1996, followed by consecutive wins there until 2004.

After the 2008 delimitation, he secured the Sriperumbudur seat in 2009 and 2019. Despite a loss in Thanjavur in 2014, Baalu’s recent win cements his legacy alongside Chidambaram, who first entered the Lok Sabha in 1984 from Sivaganga and achieved seven electoral victories by 2009.
