Swiss Foreign Secretary Alexandre Fasel visited Delhi to advocate for India’s attendance at the upcoming Ukraine Peace Conference in Switzerland. Fasel emphasized the importance of India, along with other BRICS countries, conveying messages to Russia and playing a significant role in future peace talks. While India has not yet confirmed its participation, citing ongoing elections, Fasel expressed hope that India would respond positively.
He highlighted the need for representation from the Global South and emphasized India’s potential influence in shaping global governance. Despite concerns about Russia’s absence and the majority of confirmed participants being Western allies, Fasel maintained that Switzerland remains a neutral venue for the conference. India’s decision on participation will likely await the formation of a new government by mid-June, with attention also on China’s peace efforts in the region.
