Suspended Kerala IAS officer Prasanth demands promotion during hearing

Suspended IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman Prasanth from Kerala has asked the state government to give him a promotion, even though he is currently under suspension. He made this request during a recent official hearing related to his case.

Prasanth, who has been suspended from service due to an ongoing investigation, surprised many officials by raising the demand for a promotion. During the hearing, he claimed that he had completed the required years of service and deserved to move to the next level in his career. He asked the department to consider his request seriously and follow the rules that apply to all officers.

He said, “I have finished my service requirements. The government should follow the rules and promote me like it does for others.” Prasanth also argued that a suspension does not automatically cancel his right to be considered for promotion.

However, government officials explained that his case is still under review and that a final decision has not been made yet. They said the government needs to complete the inquiry before taking any step related to his career.

The suspension relates to a serious case from 2019, where Prasanth was involved in a road accident that led to a journalist’s death. The case is still in court, and the government has not yet decided on his future in the civil service.

Many people, including senior officers and the public, have reacted strongly to Prasanth’s promotion request. Some believe it is not right for a suspended officer to ask for a promotion, while others say he has the right to request it if the rules allow.

The final decision will depend on the outcome of the legal process and the internal review by the state government. For now, Prasanth remains suspended, but his request has opened up a debate about rules, rights, and responsibilities in the civil service.
