Suspended Indian-Origin Lawyer Faces Police Report for Violating Social Media Rules During Singapore Presidential Election
Ravi Madasamy, a suspended Indian-origin lawyer, is under scrutiny for repeatedly publishing election advertising material on social media platforms during the cooling-off period before Singapore’s presidential election, leading to a police report being filed against him. The Elections Department (ELD) reported that Madasamy had breached Section 42C of the Presidential Elections Act, which prohibits the posting of election advertising, paid or unpaid, during the cooling-off period.
He shared several videos and posts on Facebook, which could be seen as promoting or prejudicing a candidate’s electoral success. A report has also been filed against another individual who shared one of Madasamy’s videos on TikTok. Those found guilty of such violations can face fines or imprisonment.
