Suspected Honour Killing in Tamil Nadu: Father Accused of Murdering Daughter
In a suspected case of honour killing, a 19-year-old youth named Naveen from Tamil Nadu’s Tanjavur district has accused his father-in-law, Perumal, of murdering his wife, Iswarya. Naveen and Iswarya, both 19 years old, were in love since their school days and got married at a local temple, even though Naveen is underage for marriage.
The couple, employed at an apparel unit in Tiruppur, rented a house in Veerapandi after marriage. Iswarya’s family, belonging to an intermediate caste, filed a missing persons complaint, leading the police to trace the couple. Iswarya was handed over to her father at the police station, but later, Naveen learned that Iswarya had been allegedly murdered by her father with support from relatives. Police have registered a case, and a search is underway for Perumal and his relatives. The Palladam police claim they handed over Iswarya to her father as per her wish.
