Surama Padhy Makes History as Odisha Assembly Speaker

Surama Padhy, a senior BJP leader and two-time MLA from Ranpur in Nayagarh district, has been elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly. Her election marks a significant milestone as she becomes the second woman to hold this prestigious position after Pramila Mallick of BJD. In a special session of the Assembly, Pro-tem Speaker R.P. Swain announced her uncontested election, emphasizing the unanimous support from members.

Padhy expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to uphold the dignity of the House with impartiality and cooperation from all parties. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik extended their congratulations, underscoring their expectation of her stewardship in maintaining parliamentary decorum.
