Supreme Court Summons Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Over Forest Fires

The Supreme Court criticized the Uttarakhand government for its lackadaisical approach in controlling forest fires, summoning the State’s Chief Secretary to appear before it on May 17. Expressing dissatisfaction, the court observed that despite the preparation of multiple action plans, no significant steps have been taken for their implementation.

Additionally, the court highlighted the issue of significant vacancies within the state’s forest department, urging the authorities to address this matter urgently. The apex court’s directive came during a hearing on a plea concerning the widespread forest fires in Uttarakhand.
