Supreme Court Orders Restoration of Cheating Case Against Rajinikanth’s Wife
The Supreme Court has directed the restoration of a cheating case against Latha Rajinikanth, the wife of Indian superstar Rajinikanth. The case alleges that she diverted money meant for the post-production of the movie ‘Kochadaiiyaan’. The Supreme Court bench has given Latha Rajinikanth the option to file a discharge application or face trial proceedings.
The high court had previously said that the complaint recklessly included allegations of cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property. However, the Supreme Court in 2018 set aside the high court’s order and affirmed that the allegations constituted a prima facie case for trial. The latest Supreme Court order also stated that Latha’s physical presence in the case would not be required unless directed by the trial court.
