Supreme Court Orders Medical Examination for Kerala Ex-Principal Secretary in Money Laundering Case

The Supreme Court has directed M. Sivasankar, former Principal Secretary to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, to undergo a medical examination at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) in Pondicherry. Sivasankar, who retired as a bureaucrat, had been granted interim bail on medical grounds in August due to money laundering charges in the LIFE Mission case.

The Enforcement Directorate had opposed extending the bail, arguing that Sivasankar’s application relied on certifications from private hospitals. The court has now ordered the medical examination at JIPMER and extended the interim bail until the next hearing post the winter break. Sivasankar was arrested in a bribery case related to the LIFE Mission soon after his retirement.
