Supreme Court Judge Recuses from Hearing Hyderabad Businessman’s Plea in Delhi Excise Policy Scam Case

Supreme Court Justice Sanjay Kumar recused himself from hearing the plea of Hyderabad-based businessman Abhishek Boinpally, linked to a money laundering case involving the Delhi Excise policy scam. The judge’s decision led to the matter being directed to another Bench for hearing in August. Boinpally, whose interim bail was extended due to his wife’s health conditions, has been challenging the legality of his arrest under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The case, originating from allegations of irregularities in Delhi’s excise policy, saw the Delhi High Court dismissing Boinpally’s petition questioning the legality of his arrest in 2022. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) allege Boinpally’s involvement in a conspiracy to launder money related to modifications in the excise policy.
