Supreme Court Denies Urgent Hearing to Industry Bodies in Electoral Bonds Case
The Supreme Court rejected an urgent hearing on Monday for intervention by industry associations against a March 15 order concerning the non-disclosure of electoral bonds’ unique alphanumeric numbers to the Election Commission of India. Headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, the Bench questioned why ASSOCHAM, FICCI, and CII approached the court after the judgment on the electoral bonds scheme was pronounced on February 15.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the industry bodies, clarified their concern about the March 15 order, emphasizing they had no issue with revealing donors or recipients. Despite Rohatgi’s submission, the Chief Justice highlighted that no application from the industry associations was filed before the court. FICCI confirmed filing an intervention application, expressing concerns about retrospective actions impacting business confidence and fostering a conducive environment for economic development.
