In a setback to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, a Vacation Bench of the Supreme Court refused to list his application seeking an extension of interim bail by seven days in a money laundering case. The Bench cited its inability to intervene in a case already reserved for judgment by another Bench of the court, led by Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta.
Senior advocate A.M. Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, emphasized that the plea was made on medical grounds and did not constitute an abuse of liberty. Kejriwal’s application stated the necessity for undergoing a series of medical tests, including a PET-CT scan. The Vacation Bench directed Singhvi to approach the Chief Justice of India for appropriate orders for listing. Kejriwal was previously granted interim bail on May 10 to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, with the condition to surrender on June 2 and restrictions on his official duties and public statements.
