The Supreme Court’s Special Bench has rejected the plea of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren challenging his arrest on money laundering charges in a land scam case. The court advised Soren to approach the Jharkhand High Court, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the tiers of appeal. Senior advocates Kapil Sibal and A.M. Singhvi, representing Soren, claimed that the Centre was attempting to destabilize the Jharkhand government.
The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, M.M. Sundresh, and Bela M. Trivedi, urged the High Court to expedite the consideration of Soren’s petition. The Enforcement Directorate arrested Soren under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on January 31.
