Supreme Court Considers Urgent Listing of Arvind Kejriwal’s Appeal

Following the dismissal of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea by the Delhi High Court regarding his arrest in the Delhi liquor policy case, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud has expressed readiness to promptly review an email from Kejriwal’s lawyers seeking an urgent hearing in the Supreme Court to quash his arrest. Senior advocates A.M. Singhvi and Shadan Farasat represented Kejriwal in this matter, highlighting that his arrest was based on undisclosed documents and urging for an urgent listing due to his position as a Chief Minister.

The Supreme Court, closed for two days, will reconvene on April 15. Kejriwal argues that his arrest was a strategic move to skew the political landscape in favor of the BJP, claiming misuse of Central agencies to stifle opposition. The Enforcement Directorate counters, labeling Kejriwal as the orchestrator of the Delhi excise “scam” and accusing him of receiving kickbacks for favorable policy decisions and election campaign funding.
