Supreme Court Agrees to Reconsider Nagpur Airport Case
Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, has agreed to hear a curative petition filed by the Union government and the Airports Authority of India regarding the operation of Nagpur’s Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport by the GMR Group.
The petition challenges a previous apex court ruling that upheld the Bombay High Court’s decision to cancel a communication issued by MIHAN in 2020, which annulled the tender awarded to GMR for the airport’s upgrade and operation.
The Centre and AAI argue that they were not allowed to be heard during the court proceedings. GMR, however, contends that the AAI was thoroughly heard before the previous judgment and questions the maintainability of the curative petition, claiming it to be an intra-court appeal rather than a valid curative petition. The court has scheduled the hearing for two weeks from now.
