According to Godavari Delta Chief Engineer R. Sateesh Kumar, the Godavari and Sileru rivers currently hold a total of 34 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of water, ensuring ample supply for irrigation and drinking purposes in the Godavari region. With farmers relying on irrigation for Rabi crops, this water availability comes as a relief.
Despite concerns raised previously about a potential shortfall of 8 TMC for the Rabi season, the situation has improved notably. Telangana’s decision to store 16 TMC of Godavari water at the Polavaram project, instead of the Kaleshwaram project, has contributed significantly to meeting the region’s water needs, addressing both irrigation and drinking water requirements effectively.
