Sudan War Displaces Nearly Eight Million People: UN

The war between rival generals in Sudan has displaced nearly eight million people, according to the United Nations. The conflict erupted in mid-April last year between Sudan’s army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, the commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. Both sides have faced accusations of war crimes, including indiscriminate shelling of residential areas, torture, and arbitrary detention of civilians.

UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, during his visit to Ethiopia, called for urgent and additional support to meet the needs of those affected by the conflict. Diplomatic efforts to end the violence have so far been unsuccessful, and the humanitarian situation remains dire.
