Sudan Conflict Forces Over 2 Million Children to Flee Homes, Says Unicef
Unicef reports that the ongoing violent conflict in Sudan has displaced more than 2 million children from their homes, with an average of over 700 children newly displaced every hour. Approximately 1.7 million children are internally displaced within Sudan’s borders, while over 470,000 have fled to neighboring countries. The conflict has left close to 14 million children in urgent need of humanitarian aid, facing multiple threats and terrifying experiences daily.
The violence has expanded from conflict hotspots to other populated areas, hindering the delivery of essential services. Food insecurity is a major concern, with 20.3 million people expected to face it between July and September 2023. Health systems are overwhelmed due to massive displacement, and disease outbreaks are resurfacing, underscoring the urgent need for peace in the region.
