Successful Trial Run Marks Milestone for Chenab Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir
The Indian Railways achieved a significant milestone with the successful trial run of an eight-coach MEMU train on the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest arch railway bridge spanning the Chenab River. This trial run, conducted between Dugga and Bakkal stations in Jammu and Kashmir, signifies a crucial step towards operationalizing the rail service from Reasi to Baramulla in Kashmir.
The electrified line section, covering 46 km from Sangaldan to Reasi, included traversing nine tunnels totaling 40.787 km, with the longest tunnel, T-44, spanning 11.13 km. The event garnered enthusiastic support from locals, who hailed the connectivity efforts linking Reasi with Kashmir, facilitated by state-of-the-art technology and the strategic USBRL project.
