Successful Rescue of Sloth Bear in Shivamogga
Forest Department officials in Shivamogga City executed a successful rescue operation to capture a sloth bear, aged approximately six to eight years after it was spotted wandering in the residential area of Vivekananda Badavane in Gopala. Prompt action was taken by officials upon receiving reports from morning walkers, who encountered the bear around 5:30 a.m.
Despite a minor injury to a resident, quick coordination between locals and authorities ensured the safety of the community. With the assistance of nets and tranquilizer darts, the bear was safely sedated and relocated to a secure location. Plans for its release back into the forest area are pending, pending an evaluation of its health by veterinary experts.
