Eleven students from a prestigious medical institute, the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubballi, have been suspended for a week after creating and sharing derogatory reels about nurses on social media. The reels, which portrayed nurses in a humiliating and negative manner, were made without their consent and included a popular Kannada movie song with lyrics that questioned the trustworthiness of girls and nurses.
The backlash from the nursing community led to the suspension, with the institute’s principal, Dr Eshwar Hosamani, taking action. In response, the students released another video apologizing to the nurses and clarifying that it was meant as a joke. The incident has sparked outrage among nurses across the state, with protests and demands for action against the medical students.
