ST Engineering to Enhance Passenger Safety in Chennai Metro Phase II with Platform Screen Doors

ST Engineering Urban Solutions Limited has secured a contract to install platform screen doors on two crucial elevated stretches of the Chennai Metro Rail Phase II project. Initially introduced in underground stations during Phase I, platform screen doors enhance passenger safety by preventing access to platforms and reducing power consumption.

This safety feature will now be extended to elevated stretches, covering a total of 36 stations within the Grain Market station (Koyambedu) to Elcot station and Sholinganallur Lake station to SIPCOT II station.

The contract, valued at ₹159.97 crore, involves designing, manufacturing, and installing the doors, which will be made of toughened glass and durable materials to withstand adverse weather conditions. The installation process is expected to take four to five months after the station infrastructure is ready, followed by integration tests to ensure synchronization with train doors for about eight to nine months.
