Sri Lanka’s Tourism Rebound: Over 750,000 Tourists and $800 Million in Revenue in 7 Months
Sri Lanka has shown promising signs of recovery in its tourism sector, with the country welcoming over 750,000 tourists and earning foreign exchange revenue amounting to $800 million during the first seven months of the year.
The President’s Media Division (PMD) revealed this significant achievement, quoting State Minister of Tourism Diana Gamage, who highlighted the pivotal role this accomplishment has played in bolstering the country’s foreign reserves.
The sector faced a challenging period last year due to the economic crisis and internal struggles in the country, resulting in a decline in tourist arrivals. However, in 2023, the Sri Lankan tourism industry has made a strong comeback, setting a target to attract 2 million visitors this year, surpassing the previous goal of 1.5 million.
