Sri Lanka to Launch South Asia’s First Firefighting University
Sri Lanka is set to launch the first university in South Asia that specializes in firefighting courses, as announced by Labour Minister Manusha Nanayakkara in Colombo. The university aims to offer a degree in firefighting within a span of 20 months, addressing the global demand for trained and qualified firefighters.
The move is expected to have positive effects on foreign employment and revenue generation in the South Asian region, potentially bolstering the country’s remittances which stood at $5.49 billion in 2021 and $3.8 billion in 2022.
