South Chennai Experiences Relief as Rainwater Drains Amid Reduced Intensity

Several areas in south Chennai witnessed a decline in waterlogging by noon on Thursday as the intensity of rain decreased. Traditionally flood-prone regions like Mudichur and Neelankarai reported manageable inundation, with water draining into Veerangal Odai. However, challenges persisted in certain localities, such as heavy water stagnation in Meenakshi Nagar and Lakshmi Nagar in Madipakkam.

Residents cited ankle-deep waterlogging in CLRI Nagar, Neelankarai, due to low road levels and the absence of a stormwater drain. Brindavan Street and Ruby Complex experienced knee-deep water stagnation mixed with sewage. Inundation concerns were also raised in Sakthi Vinayagar Nagar in Injambakkam and Nemillichery High Road, which connects residential areas to Medavakkam Main Road.

Ganesh Nagar Main Road in Agaramthen faced flooding even with light showers, causing disruptions for motorists. Traffic snarls were reported on Grand Southern Trunk Road in Chromepet due to water stagnation, emphasizing the need for wider culverts and canal enhancements. Despite the challenges, efforts, including heavy-duty pumps, were initiated to address water evacuation in affected areas.
