Skymet Predicts Monsoon for India in 2024
According to the private weather forecasting agency Skymet, India is likely to experience a normal monsoon in 2024, offering relief after a forecast of above-normal heat wave days in the preceding summer months. Skymet projects that the monsoon rains will be 102% of the long-period average for the June-September period.
This prediction is significant as nearly half of India’s non-irrigated farmland relies on these rains to cultivate essential crops like rice, corn, cane, cotton, and soybeans. With El Nino transitioning to La Nina, the monsoon circulation is expected to strengthen, especially benefiting southern, western, and north-western regions of the country. The forecast brings hope for agricultural productivity in key farming states like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
