SIT Advances in Poll-Related Violence Investigation with 650 Arrests
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by IG Vineet Brijlal, has arrested 650 out of 1,370 accused involved in 37 poll-related violence cases across Palnadu, Anantapur, and Tirupati districts. Established in response to the May 12-14 unrest, the SIT is scrutinizing CCTV footage and collaborating with district SPs to track remaining suspects.
The investigation, directed by DGP Harish Kumar Gupta, aims for swift completion, with findings to be submitted to the Election Commission of India. To prevent further violence during the June 4 vote count, authorities are enforcing liquor bans, restricting fuel sales in containers, and conducting comprehensive security operations.
