SIMS Hospital in Chennai has inaugurated a dedicated Centre of Excellence for Rib Cage Disorders, aimed at treating rib fractures and breastbone deformities. The center will cater to patients suffering from various rib cage disorders, including multiple rib fractures, flail chest, pneumothorax, and subcutaneous emphysema, using minimally invasive procedures.
According to V.V. Bashi, Director of the Institute of Cardiac & Aortic Disorders at SIMS, the center’s approach will significantly reduce hospital stays, pain management requirements, and prolonged bed rests. Rajkamal Vishnu, a cardiothoracic surgeon at the hospital, emphasized the focus on preserving the normal anatomy of the rib cage, utilizing titanium rods for procedures. The minimally invasive approach adopted by the center is expected to alleviate breathing difficulties and other cardiac issues, benefiting patients by avoiding prolonged ICU stays and pain management medications.
