Sharp Rise in Militant Attacks in Pakistan During August
Pakistan experienced a significant increase in militant attacks during August, with 99 reported incidents, the highest monthly number since November 2014, according to a report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS). These attacks resulted in 112 deaths and 87 injuries, primarily among security forces personnel and civilians.
Compared to July, there was an 83% increase in militant attacks, with 54 reported incidents in the previous month. Additionally, Pakistan has seen 22 suicide attacks in the first eight months of 2023, causing 227 fatalities and injuring 497 people. Security forces have responded effectively to the threat, preventing many attacks, killing at least 24 militants, and arresting 69 others through various operations across the country, the PICSS report noted.
