Sharad Pawar Urges Urgent Supreme Court Hearing Amid Factional Dispute
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) founder Sharad Pawar has sought an urgent hearing in the Supreme Court regarding the recognition of his faction within the party. Pawar’s appeal comes amidst a tumultuous political scenario where he faces the prospect of being subjected to the whip of his politically estranged nephew and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar. The dispute arose after the Election Commission of India recognized Ajit Pawar’s breakaway faction as the legitimate NCP, a decision challenged by Sharad Pawar in the apex court.
Senior advocate A.M. Singhvi, representing Sharad Pawar, highlighted the urgency of the matter, emphasizing the need for a resolution before the upcoming assembly session. The Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, assured to examine the plea for an early listing. Ajit Pawar has already filed a caveat, urging the court to hear his side before any order is passed on Sharad Pawar’s petition challenging the EC’s decision.
