The administration in Andhra Pradesh is on high alert as the severe cyclonic storm ‘Michaung’ is expected to cross the coast near Bapatla on Tuesday afternoon. The India Meteorological Department reported the storm centered about 25 km north-northeast of Nellore. Strong winds with a speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph are forecasted in the region.
Coastal areas may experience tidal waves of up to 1 to 1.5 meters. Heavy rainfall has disrupted road transport, and low-lying areas are inundated in several districts. Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy directed officials to be on high alert, and relief measures are in place. NDRF and SDRF teams are deployed, and relief camps have been opened to ensure the safety of residents in vulnerable areas.
