Seven-Year Jail Term for Attendant Convicted of Assaulting Minor Girl
A special court handling cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has delivered a verdict, sentencing an attendant of an orphanage to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl on the orphanage premises. The convict, Thavasimani, was arrested in 2014 on charges of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in the jurisdiction of Washermenpet police district and Korukkupet police station.
A case was registered against him under the provisions of the POCSO Act, and he was remanded to judicial custody. The trial took place within the High Court Complex, and the special judge found him guilty of the offense outlined in Section 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault) of the POCSO Act, sentencing him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹5000.
