SC Extends Stay on Kanwar Yatra Directives Amid Controversy

On July 26, the Supreme Court extended its interim stay on directives from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh governments requiring eateries along the Kanwar Yatra routes to display detailed information about their owners and staff.

Justices Hrishikesh Roy and S.V.N. Bhatti clarified that they would not issue further explanations on their July 22 order, emphasizing that the court had already addressed the matter. The directive, intended to promote transparency and prevent confusion during the yatra, faced criticism and legal challenges, prompting the court to seek responses from the state governments and allow petitioners to reply before the next hearing on August 5.
