Santhan’s Mortal Remains Repatriated to Sri Lanka
The body of Santhan, a former convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, has been flown to Sri Lanka for his last rites. Santhan passed away at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital due to a cardiac arrest, after battling liver failure for nearly a month. Amid heavy police protection, his embalmed body was sent on a flight to Sri Lanka, where it will be taken to his family home.
The Madras High Court directed the Tamil Nadu government to facilitate the repatriation, following the completion of all necessary formalities. Santhan’s demise marks the end of a legal and medical battle, as he was among the seven convicts ordered to be released by the Supreme Court in 2022.
