Safety Violations: Pressure on Locopilots Threatens Rail Safety

In a concerning incident within the Salem Division of Southern Railway, locopilots faced pressure to violate safety norms in a bid to maintain punctuality. Despite being authorized to cross signals at restricted speeds of 15 kmph, locopilots were allegedly coerced to run the relief engine at 50 kmph, risking safety. As chargesheets were issued against them for causing punctuality loss, the All India Loco Running Staff Association raised alarm over the blatant disregard for safety protocols.

The association highlighted the intimidating behavior of officials, emphasizing the need for stringent adherence to safety rules to prevent jeopardizing railway operations. This incident underscores the delicate balance between punctuality and safety within the railway system, emphasizing the paramount importance of prioritizing safety over operational efficiency.
