Russia Accuses U.S. of Meddling in India’s Internal Affairs
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has accused the United States of meddling in India’s domestic affairs and the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. She criticized Washington for lacking understanding of India’s national mentality and history, particularly regarding religious freedoms. Zakharova emphasized that the U.S. has yet to provide credible evidence implicating Indian citizens in a foiled murder plot against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a designated terrorist.
Describing the interference as reminiscent of a “colonial period mentality,” she suggested that Washington’s actions were aimed at destabilizing India’s political situation ahead of the 2024 parliamentary elections. India has vehemently rejected the claims made by the Washington Post, labeling them as “unwarranted and unsubstantiated.” Meanwhile, the Indian government has initiated an ongoing investigation into the matter through a high-level committee, emphasizing the need for responsible discourse on the issue.
