RSRM Hospital in Royapuram Achieves Zero Maternal Deaths in Nine of the Past 10 Months

The Government Raja Sir Ramaswamy Mudaliar (RSRM) Lying-in Hospital in Royapuram, Chennai, has reported zero maternal deaths in nine out of the past 10 months. Catering primarily to high-risk pregnant women from north Chennai and neighboring districts, the hospital attributes its success to a multidisciplinary team approach, standardized treatment protocols, and improved infrastructure.

RSRM Hospital, a 143-year-old facility, manages around 11,000 deliveries annually, with most patients classified as high-risk pregnancies due to cardiac issues, hypertension, diabetes, and other complications. The hospital collaborates with specialists from Government Stanley Medical College Hospital and recently received LaQshya (Labour Room Quality Improvement Initiative) certification. A new building with 300 additional beds is under construction to enhance patient care further.
