Revitalization of Historic King Institute Building Nears Completion
The iconic red brick building of the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research in Guindy is set to be fully restored in two months, with the Public Works Department having completed 80% of the renovation. Built in 1905, the historic administrative structure is undergoing a ₹8.30 crore makeover, including lime mortar replastering and ceiling joist replacements.
The adjacent annexe building, also under renovation, has seen 40% of its ₹5.25 crore project completed. Efforts focus on preserving the architectural integrity with materials sourced from specific regions to maintain historical authenticity. Both projects are expected to enhance the facility’s heritage value by the end of the year.
