Revamping Chennai’s Aviation Infrastructure: Urgent Measures Needed
Aviation experts are calling for urgent action to address the shortcomings of Chennai’s airport infrastructure, echoing concerns raised by DMK Rajya Sabha member P. Wilson about the withdrawal of international flights. To ensure the state’s economy doesn’t suffer, they emphasize expediting the construction of the Parandur airport and privatizing the existing one.
With the current airport lacking adequate aerobridges and facing limitations in accommodating larger aircraft, the need for immediate upgrades is evident. While the development of Parandur Airport is a long-term solution, privatizing the existing airport could serve as an interim measure to optimize operations and attract more airlines.
Collaboration between the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the state government is crucial to address these issues effectively and enhance Chennai’s position as a prominent aviation hub.
