Resumption of Veeranam Tank Water Supply Boosts Chennai’s Water Supply
Chennai has started receiving up to 180 million litres of water per day from the Veeranam tank, which has reached its full storage capacity of 1,465 million cubic feet. After a nearly four-month suspension due to low levels, the resumption is expected to significantly improve water supply in core areas including Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alandur, and Adyar.
Previously, the gap in supply was managed through other sources like Chembarambakkam and the Nemmeli desalination plant. The additional water is anticipated to enhance supply pressure and benefit households in tail-end areas.
