Resolution to Roll E-Tenders for Street Lamp Maintenance Postponed in Chennai

The Greater Chennai Corporation postponed a resolution to roll out e-tenders for the operations and maintenance of street lamp posts and high masts in specific zones. Of the 35 resolutions discussed at the council meeting, only the one related to e-tenders was deferred. Ward Committee Chairmen expressed concerns about defaulters among existing contractors listed in the resolution and urged against awarding them new tenders.

The Corporation responded that it cannot decide whom to award the tender to, but removal of contractors with a history of defaulting is possible. The delay raises issues about the maintenance and safety of street lamp infrastructure in the specified zones.
