Residents’ associations across Chennai are demanding the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to prohibit cricket playing in public parks to ensure the safety of walkers, especially senior citizens. Following multiple incidents of injuries caused by cricket games, residents have urged the GCC to create more designated playgrounds for youth.
Councillors from various wards, including Anna Nagar and Korattur, highlight the need for additional recreational spaces as the existing parks are overcrowded with cricket players. The GCC has planned to install display boards announcing the prohibition of cricket in parks in response to residents’ demands. Additionally, efforts are underway to construct modern playgrounds in areas where open spaces are limited, ensuring that youth have safe areas to play while preserving the safety of park visitors.
