The Marina Beach swimming pool, built in 1942 and maintained by the Greater Chennai Corporation since 1977, is set to undergo significant improvements, including the installation of a new water filtration and recycling system. This new system, capable of treating 4.5 million litres of water per day, will be set up at a cost of ₹3.41 crore, aiming to replace the outdated filtration process that has been in place for over two decades.
The current manual cleaning methods will be replaced by more efficient, automated solutions with the installation of the modern filtration facility. Chennai Metrowater has been entrusted with the responsibility of operating and maintaining this new facility for five years, and the work to set up the system is scheduled to begin in January, ensuring better water quality and long-term sustainability for the pool.
